Town hall and belfry
With its soaring 75-metre spire, the Flemish neo-Renaissance town hall is one of the postcards of Calais. Its belfry is inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. In front of it, the famous Burghers of Calais by Auguste Rodin stand humble and deeply moving. People happily arrange to meet there: it is hard to walk past without spotting one another.
The International City of Lace
Housed in a former factory in the Saint-Pierre district, the International City of Lace and Fashion traces the history of a textile art that made the city famous. Working Leavers looms, haute-couture gowns and contemporary creations make for a surprising visit. An original cultural date that offers plenty to talk about afterwards over coffee.
Museum and Richelieu Park
The Fine Arts Museum exhibits paintings, sculptures and preparatory studies for the Burghers of Calais. Right next door, Richelieu Park offers lawns, flowerbeds and tall trees for a green pause in the city centre. On Lyad, Calais members share their favourite walks and cafés; it is up to you to find someone to extend the visit with.
